This weekend, thousands of cyclists will pedal 182 miles from Houston to Austin in the largest fundraising event of it's kind for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Like the Boston Marathon, the BP MS 150 has large amounts of spectators, volunteers and in this event, cyclists who spread out over a huge area.
That's why the partnership between the National MS Society and local, state and federal authorities is critical.
In the wake of Monday's twin bombings at the Boston Marathon, security is being stepped up, not only at the start and finish lines, but along the entire route.
"So every community we go through, we have been partnering and working with those police, DPS and those groups that are appropriate to work with and ensure safety overall.", said Debbie Pope of the National MS Society.
The ride is the largest event of it's kind in North America.
In the past 24 hours, everyone involved conducted a thorough review of the plans to make sure they sure they are prepared and to see what, if any, extra precautions are needed.
"I've been advising everybody to keep an eye on our website or Facebook. We'll be communicating through those different channels throughout the weekend.", said Pope.
