Security guard shoots theft suspect

HOUSTON -

A security guard shot a man accused of stealing money from a woman's purse in northwest Harris County.

Employees said a customer was inside the Maverick Game Room, 1814 West FM 1960 near Silver Ridge Drive at 1 a.m. Thursday when he grabbed a woman's purse and took it to the bathroom.

He later returned the purse, officials said, after he took out cash from the bag.

A manager said the man was caught on surveillance cameras so the security guard patted him down and found $400.

The guard took the money and the man left.

However, he returned a short time later and demanded his money, officials said.

That's when the security guard shot the man in the leg.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. He has not been charged.

The guard was not arrested.
