San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to seek 3rd term
San Antonio Mayor Castro seeks 3rd term, national profile up after Democrat Convention keynote
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be seeking a third term.
Castro told supporters over the weekend that despite a growing national stature he's not going anywhere except making San Antonio a better place.
Castro has gained prominence since last summer with his keynote address at the Democratic National Convention.
He says he hopes to be the first San Antonio mayor since term limits were relaxed to serve four consecutive two-year terms.
He was first elected in 2009 to what officially is a non-partisan office. Two years ago, Castro took more than 80 percent of the vote in a five-person race.
No serious challengers so far have emerged for this year's election.
