HOUSTON -

A pizza restaurant manager trying to make a night-time deposit was shot early Tuesday.

The shooting happened at 12:30 a.m. at the Chase bank at 9800 Westheimer at Gessner Road in west Houston.

Police said the manager of a Papa John's pizza restaurant on Gessner and Westheimer was about to drop a deposit into the night deposit box when a masked gunman walked up.

The manager jumped back into his car to try and get away, but the gunman fired several shots, shooting the manager once.

The victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition. His name was not released. Officials said he's worked at the store for a few years. Police think he was followed to the night deposit box.

The robber fled the scene, but police said they're taking a look at surveillance footage from the bank.
