Restaurant Report Card for Nov. 17: roaches in rice
In this week's Restaurant Report Card, one restaurant is back for a second helping of health code violations from inspectors and another popular downtown restaurant can't seem to cure its rat problem.
Employees at Nit Noi Café, 4703 Richmond Ave., use a large trash can to hold uncooked rice, but inspectors said they found more than rice in one trash can. They observed live roaches crawling around in the rice.
At Cabo in the 400 block of Travis, inspectors asked employees to clean up the rodent droppings on the floor, and they made a note that it was a repeat violation.
It was so bad at Madras Pavillion at 3910 Kirby that inspectors closed the place. They found no hot water and live roaches in the cabinets, on the floors and in storage areas.
There was more roach activity in the food preparation area of Les Givral's at 801 Congress in downtown Houston.
Tila's Restaurant and Bar at 1111 Shepherd makes an encore appearance in our Restaurant Report Card, this time for fly activity in the cook line. Inspectors said one fly landed on a cutting board used to prepare your dinner.
No flies, just good food at Texadelphia at 6025 Westheimer, Panda Express at 1913 Taylor and Kenny & Ziggy's on Post Oak Boulevard. All three restaurants earned As in this week's Restaurant Report Card.
