HOUSTON -

Need some place to cool off this summer? Reliant has opened several "beat the heat" cooling centers in Houston.

There will be activities at each center, including games for children and adults, and movies. Each center will have snacks and water, and Reliant Energy advisors will make visits to each center to give people tips about how to lower their energy consumption.

People should be in air-conditioning at least three to four hours a day during the hottest times of the day, according to the Houston Fire Department. Neighbors should also keep an eye out for their elderly neighbors.

The centers are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 5.

Free transportation to and from the centers is available. Anyone needing a ride should call the center they plan to visit.
