HOUSTON -

Afternoon highs will soar to the upper 90s today with partly cloudy skies. Record-tying heat is expected to end the workweek with an afternoon high temperature of 98 degrees. The record high for this day is 98, set back in 1963.

High pressure is still in control for us here in southeast Texas, which is why we will sizzle today.

But relief is coming! Our first noticeable cold front of the season is arriving earlier than usual. It will drop our temperatures and our humidity levels. We're expecting the "cool" front to arrive Saturday morning. Saturday will be cooler, breezier and drier behind the front.

Afternoon highs Saturday will top out in the low 90s. Sunday and Monday's high temperatures will only reach the upper 80s with morning lows in the 60s. Enjoy!
