"It is going to be a washout of a day. We've had consistent light rain in Houston all morning long. We've got a lot more on the way," KPRC meteorologist Anthony Yanez said.
The heavier rain and storms are coming from the southwest.
"You've got this area of low pressure that will be moving to the northeast. It's going to grab all this moisture and slowly glide into southeast Texas. The rain is going to be scattered throughout the area. We are not going to get much of a break at lunchtime," Yanez said.
The afternoon ride home from work will also be messy. Most areas will receive about an inch of rain, Yanez said.
"It's not out of the question to see 2 to 3 inches in a couple of isolated spots so it's a good soaking rain, definitely what we need for our drought. The rain will get out of here at the latest at 3 o'clock Thursday morning," Yanez said.
Thursday will be dry and warm with highs in the upper 70s.
The rain will return on Sunday.
