Prosecutors: Man sentenced for assaulting infant
North Texas prosecutors say man sentenced for sexually assaulting infant
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A jury has sentenced a man to 45 years in prison for sexual assaulting an infant believed to be one of the youngest victims ever seen by North Texas authorities.
Authorities say 40-year-old Derek Wryan Wilson was convicted Thursday of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 6, a charge that carries no possibility of parole. A Tarrant County jury sentenced him later in the day.
Authorities say he assaulted his girlfriend's 10-week-old daughter and Wilson told them he was "curious" about the infant's anatomy.
Prosecutors say the infant's grandmother rushed into the girl's room in July after hearing her cry and found Wilson holding the baby.
A doctor testified the infant was the youngest victim of sexual assault the doctor had examined in 22 years of practice.
