WASHINGTON (CNN) -

President Barack Obama has had better weeks, but at least he got to end it in style -- and with his wife by his side.

Obama and his wife Michelle celebrated their 20th anniversary with a romantic dinner Saturday night. According to pool reports, the president and first lady ate at the Bourbon Steak restaurant in Georgetown's tony Four Seasons hotel.

There's no word on what gifts the Obamas may have exchanged, but 20th anniversaries typically involve items made of a politically volatile word: china.

The night-out was a far cry from where the president spent Wednesday, the day of his actual anniversary. Obama was at the University of Denver -- along with scores of strangers -- facing off with Republican nominee Mitt Romney in the presidential race's first debate.

That wasn't a magical night for Obama, according to most pundits, who credited Romney with a clear victory. The president did have some bright spots, though, in the subsequent days such as a better than expected jobs report and strong fundraising numbers.

While the first couple spent Saturday night together, they won't be in the same place for much longer. Obama leaves Washington on Sunday to fund-raise and campaign through California and Ohio
