Police search for carjacking suspects near school after chase
HISD charter school placed on lock down
Carjacking suspects on loose after chase
HISD police searched for three carjacking suspects near a southeast Houston school Thursday.
Officials said the incident started when two armed men carjacked a woman at the Bankside Village apartments at 8 a.m. and stole her 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
"They wanted my purse, they wanted my keys, they wanted my cellphone," Maria Vizcaya said. "I just gave everything to them because they actually pulled out a gun. My mind went blank. It was all of a sudden. It happened so fast."
An HISD officer tried to pull over the vehicle, which was also speeding, but the driver took off. Three suspects bailed out of the vehicle at a dead-end on Segrest Drive near South Acres Drive, investigators said. One of the men appeared to drop a pistol, police said.
The search was near the former Rhoads Elementary School, which is being used as a charter school for HISD. The school was temporarily placed on lock down, which was lifted by 9 a.m.
K-9 units and an HPD police helicopter helped in the search.
The three suspects have not been caught. Descriptions of them have not been released.
