Police search for liquor store shooter

HOUSTON -

Police are searching for a suspect they said held up a north Houston liquor store and shot the owner, even as he handed over cash.

Investigators said David Hamilton, 26, can be seen in surveillance video standing in line, along with other customers, at Greens Liquor store on Imperial Valley last week. At around 3 p.m., Hamilton pretended to be just another customer, right before lunging over the counter, taking out a gun, demanding cash and shooting at store employees, police said.

"He didn't stop shooting and kept reaching for the money and shooting," store owner Sam Rihani said. "He was careful enough to reach his left arm… to put hand on the money and the other hand shooting."

Police said both Rihani and his brother were hit as the man grabbed handfuls of cash and fled. Rihani was shot in the neck and arm; amazingly neither brother suffered permanent injury.

"He shot six shots and got me twice and my brother twice," Rihani said.

Court records show Hamilton has a long criminal history, including assault, theft and drug possession. Now, two charges of aggravated robbery have been added to that list.

Rihani is back at work, supporting his family, but said there is the lingering fear Hamilton may come back.

"He altered my life completely," Rihani said. "Hopefully we will find him."

Anyone with information on Hamilton's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
