Police are searching for a driver who, they said. led them on a chase through northeast Houston then took off on foot.

Houston police tried to stop the driver on Crosstimbers Road near the Hardy Toll Road about 1:45 a.m. on Thursday.  Police said the driver took off east on Crosstimbers, speeding and running red lights.

The driver turned right onto Hardy, stopped, jumped out of the car and ran off, investigators said.

Police said the driver left the car in neutral, so it rolled backward and almost hit one of the patrol cars.

Officers searched the area with a K-9 unit and a helicopter, but they did not find the man. A description of him has not been released.
