Baby dies in Rosenberg
ROSENBERG, Texas -

Rosenberg Police are trying to figure out what caused the death of a 4-month-old baby girl at a motel. They said her death was caused by some type of injury.

Police said a babysitter called officers Wednesday at 4:40 p.m. to say the baby had stopped breathing at the Woodlands Motel, 4814 Ave. H. Before paramedics arrived, Valerie Morales, who lives at the motel, said her boyfriend tried to revive the child. He had been called over by the babysitter, who was described as frantic.

"The lady was panicking. The baby wasn't breathing," says Morales. "He walked in and she was purple, laying on her back and he tried to do CPR on her. She still wouldn't breathe."

That's when paramedics showed up. They also tried to revive the baby, and transported her to a hospital in nearby Richmond, but they pronounced her dead about 30 minutes later.

No arrests have been made, but investigators are interviewing the sitter as well as the parents.

"The mother dropped the child off this morning and it's their regular caretaker," says Lt. Colin Davidson, a spokesman for the police department. "We're in the process of interviewing everyone that's involved."

"It's just heartbreaking," adds Rosa Sanchez, who lives and works at the motel. "It's hard to see something like that because you don't expect it to be right next door to you."

Police have not disclosed what kind of injuries the baby died from or the victim's name.
