RICHMOND, Texas -

A Richmond man police said stabbed his girlfriend multiple times Saturday was found dead after he jumped in front of an 18-wheeler on US 59.

The man, 33, and his girlfriend, 34, were arguing at a Richmond apartment complex at 2010 Thompson Highway Saturday night after the woman told him she wanted to break up, investigators said. He then stabbed her several times, according to police.

Witnesses heard screams and saw the man get in his truck to leave. The woman was in the parking lot and the suspect tried to run her over, according to witnesses.

The woman then went to another apartment for help. The Richmond Fire and Fort Bend EMS arrived and the woman was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is in serious but stable condition Sunday.

At 12:53 a.m. Sunday, Sugar Land police said a man, who they believe to be the stabbing suspect, pulled his truck over and stopped in the HOV lane on US 59 at Highway 6. The man then got out of his truck and ran in front of a passing 18-wheeler tractor trailer. The truck wasn't able to stop and ran the suspect over, killing him.

The suspect's and victim's names have not been released.
