Police say a man was hospitalized after being shot by a police officer at a night club near downtown Houston.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, an off-duty HPD officer was going to a club on Bastrop Street near Webster Street. As he was leaving his car, police said an unknown man approached him with a weapon.
The officer got back in his car and drove to the nearby southwest police station, where he enlisted the help of on-duty officers.
They all returned to the scene and identified the suspect, who again brandished his weapon--this time at uniformed officers.
Police said they commanded the man to drop his weapon and show his hands, but the suspect started to walk away while pointing his weapon at the officers. According to reports, that's when one officer opened fire.
The suspect was hit and transported to Ben Taub Hospital.
The shooting is under investigation.
