Police: Mom uses daughter to shoplift
Baytown police are investigating the case of a mother who allegedly used her 10-year-old daughter to help her steal a dozen Blu-ray DVD's from a discount store.
The thefts occurred at the Dollar General store near the 4200 block of Decker Drive on Wednesday.
An employee said the daughter put the DVDs in a shopping basket and then disappeared while her mother stood near the store's entrance talking on her cellphone. The store manager confronted the child's mother, who told her the DVDs were on a shelf in the back of the store.
The child's mother then took her daughter and calmly walked out of the store.
The 10-year-old's father called Baytown police and said he hasn't seen or heard from his daughter since the alleged shoplifting incident. He also claims he's contacted Children's Protective Services.
Police believe the mother and her child may be staying with relatives.
