Police: Man steals metal from vacant business

James Darwin Bunker has 5 previous burglary convictions

SANTA FE, Texas -

A man has been accused of stealing metal from a vacant business in Santa Fe.

James Darwin Bunker, 41, as bee charged with burglary of a building.

Santa Fe police said an officer working on an unrelated case in the 4200 block of Warpath about 1 p.m. Monday saw Bunker coming out of a vacant business next to a HEB store and putting items into the back of a pickup truck.

Investigators said the officer discovered that Bunker was stealing metal parts to sell them as scrap.

Bunker also had a metal Houston Chronicle newspaper machine, which he admitted was stolen, police said.

Bunker was arrested and his bond was set at $50,000.

Police said Bunker has five previous burglary convictions and had been released from prison in November.
