HOUSTON -

A man posing as a customer walked into an Academy and stole two handguns, officials said.

The robbery happened Saturday just before 7 p.m. at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store in the 2400 block of the Southwest Freeway near Kirby in southwest Houston.

Houston police said the man casually walked in and made his way to the far corner of the store, where various types of guns are kept. Seconds later, investigators said the man smashed a glass case and snatched two guns.

On his way out, detectives said the man tackled the store's manager before bolting around the back of the building and taking off through a nearby neighborhood.

Many shoppers at the store said this robbery concerns them deeply.

"It's pretty scary to know that someone is out there willing to go through that kind of measures just to get two guns," said Jasmine Esparza.

KPRC Local 2 asked for surveillance footage of the robbery, but company officials said it's the store's policy not to release anything to the media.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
