Police: Man shoots boy, rams police car
Boy, 7, injured in shooting
A man is facing serious charges after police said he shot a young boy and injured a police officer.
Around 6 a.m. Saturday, police said the 50-year-old suspect grabbed a shotgun and headed to a house in the 500 block of Avenue J in Conroe.
Once he got there, investigators said he opened fire on the front door, hitting it three times. One of those rounds punctured through and slammed into a couch where a 7-year-old boy was sitting, hitting him at least once, investigators said. The boy was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
A little more than an hour later, police said they got a call about a car ramming other vehicles in a driveway.
"One of our officers was able to locate that vehicle at the end of 12th street," said Sgt.Tipton with the Conroe Police Department.
Police said it was the same suspect driving the car. Once he spotted police, investigators said he turned around and rammed a patrol car, pushing it into a ditch.
"The officer was in the vehicle and was not able to get out. He had to be cut out by Conroe Fire Department," said Tipton.
The officer was later taken to the hospital. His condition has not been released.
The suspect was caught a short time later, and investigators said they found a shotgun inside his car.
No word yet on what charges the suspect will face.
