Police: Man robs bank to be punished for past guilt
A man held up a bank because he wanted to be punished for things he had done in his past, police said.
Baytown police said they were called out to a robbery in progress at the Amegy Bank in the 1300 block of Rollingbrook shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday.
When officers got to the bank, they found Donald Wayne Stokes, 59, sitting in the lobby, waiting for them to arrest him, investigators said.
Stokes handed over a stack of cash he had stolen from the teller, police said.
Investigators said Stokes told the teller that he was in a lot of trouble and then went to the lobby to wait for police.
Detectives said Stokes told them that he robbed the bank because he felt guilty for bad things he had done in the past and wanted to be punished.
