A man reported his car stolen to get back at his ex-girlfriend, investigators said.
Fahed Mashal, 32, has been charged with making a false report to police.
Pasadena police said Mashal called them about 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday and told them that his car was taken during a carjacking.
Detectives said Mashal went back to his hotel after the alleged carjacking and waited for three hours, while his cellphone charged, before he called to report the alleged crime.
Police said they asked him for a statement and he confessed to making up the whole thing.
Mashal said his ex-girlfriend had his car in the San Antonio area and ran up his credit cards, investigators said. He filed the report to get her in trouble for having a stolen car, police said.
