Police: Dad speeds with 7 unrestrained kids
A father has been accused of driving dangerously with seven children in a pickup truck, including three in the bed.
Around 3 p.m. on Monday, drivers called Galveston police after seeing the driver of a white pickup truck traveling at 90 mph down the causeway.
"We stopped the vehicle … we found that there were seven children in total, three in the bed of the pickup and four in the cabin of the pickup," Lt. Michael Gray said. "None of them were properly restrained. And there was a 3-year-old child in a car seat in the bed of the pickup truck."
The driver, Aaron Rincon, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was booked into to the Galveston County Jail with bond set at $30,000.
Investigators said the children ranged in age from 2 to 14. Some of the children were his, but some were not, police said.
Detectives said they found a small amount of marijuana inside the pickup truck and that Rincon's license was not valid.
Police have not said why Rincon, who is from Houston, was taking the children to Galveston. While he went to jail, the children were released to a guardian.
