HOUSTON -

Some burglars went to great lengths to gain access to a strip mall in northwest Houston.

It happened around 10 a.m. Monday at a strip center in the 5700 block of West Gulfgate.

Houston police said the thieves broke a side door at an abandoned church in the strip mall, smashed holes in the wall of a nails salon, tax prep store and cellphone shop to stealĀ  thousands of dollars worth of electronics.

Faraz Siddiqui works Antoine Wireless, one of the stores burglarized.

"They took even the dummy phones," said Siddiqui. "They stole all the accessories, the chargers."

Siddiqui said the crooks even took the store's surveillance video system.

Officials said this is at least the third time burglars have stolen from businesses in the strip mall in the same destructive way.

"It was pretty frustrating back then. It's frustrating right now," said Siddiqui.

Investigators said they're seeing similar cases in other parts of town. Just a day before this incident, officials said thieves broke into a vacant Title Max store in southwest Houston, then smashed through the wall of a City Gear Shoes next door to swipe expensive shoes.

A few weeks before that, investigators said the Minute Stop in southwest Houston fell victim to the same kind of crime.
