Police: 1 dead, 2 injured in shooting in Baytown
Authorities search for suspect who fled scene in beige 2000 Saturn
One person died and two others were wounded after a shooting in Baytown Saturday, according to authorities.
Police said Cameron Gold, 37, is the gunman.
The suspect is accused of walking up to three people sitting outside and fired a gun at them at least six times.
Investigators said it happened Saturday evening at an apartment building in the 1000 block of North Main Street.
One person died at Baytown Hospital, police said. Two others were flown to Memorial Hermann hospital in critical condition, investigators said.
“We have some strong leads that we're following up with right now, but if your viewers take anything away from this, it's to keep their eyes peeled for vehicle," said Lt. Eric Freed.
Authorities said Gold fled the scene in a beige 2000 Saturn vehicle with the license number NJK928. The vehicle does not belong to the shooter, police said.
Baytown police said drugs may be involved. Authorities said the shooting could be retaliation for a fight at the building Friday. In that incident, a man was hit in the head with a baseball bat, left unconscious, and taken to the hospital. Police believe Gold could be the victim's friend.
Resident Gary Roberts said he and his 7-year-old son had just gotten home and were walking into his apartment a few doors down when the shooting started.
“I took [my son] to the floor and got on top of him. Lay down on top of him to protect him -- that was may main concern," Roberts said.
Roberts said he immediately called 911 while his son Christopher looked for cover.
“...and I was a little bit scared. So I ran into the bathroom and started hiding,” said Christopher.
Roberts said he and his son won't stay in the building again.
“I got a 7-year-old kid. I don't want to be around this kind of environment for my son,” Roberts said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
