A pedestrian died after he was run over on a busy freeway.

State troopers said the incident happened in the northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near F.M. 1764 in the Texas City area about 11:45 p.m.

Detectives said the man was hit by an 18-wheeler and possibly other vehicles.

All of the drivers involved stopped, officials said. No charges are expected.

Investigators said they don't know why the man was walking on the freeway.
