HOUSTON -

Houston Mayor Annise Parker outlined her priorities for the next year in her State of the City address.

The audience for her address on Thursday included some of Houston's top business and community leaders.

Parker outlined five priorities in her speech:

  • Jobs: The city added more than 100,000 jobs in the last year.
  • Infrastructure: Houston will begin more than 30 new street and drainage projects this coming year.
  • Public safety
  • Quality of life
  • Fiscal responsibility

"Unlike last year, the budget I will sent to city council next month will not include cuts in swimming pools, not include cuts in library hours or health care services," said Parker. "It will not include furloughs or layoffs of employees."

The mayor said the budget can be balanced without a tax increase or by adding debt.
