Parents charged after child injured
Muhammad Selman Khan, Shanila Rasul accused of injury to child by omission
A Houston couple has lost custody of their two young children after their 4-year-old son showed up at school with a broken neck and several broken ribs, according to Child Protective Services.
Muhammad Selman Khan and Shanila Rasul were arrested this week and have been charged with injury to a child by omission.
According to Houston police, the couple claims their son was injured when he fell off his bed earlier this month.
School officials said they noticed the boy had problems moving his head since the first day of school back in August, investigators said. The boy was taken to the school nurse, who recommended that Rasul get her son medical attention immediately.
According to court documents, the boy was admitted to a local clinic, where attending doctors found the little boy's injuries so severe that he had to be taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He has since been released.
A court ruled Thursday that the boy and his 9-year-old sister will now be placed another family, however, the parents will still have supervised visits until a final decision is made.
