Police officers shot a man outside a Pearland bank on Friday.
Pearland police said an off-duty Houston officer spotted a man dressed in black, wearing a mask and carrying a shotgun walking toward the front doors of Capital Bank on Broadway near Cullen about 1:30 p.m.
The off-duty officer called 911 and two Pearland police units arrived within a few seconds.
Detectives said the man started going back to his car, with his weapon in hand.
"They gave him verbal commands to put his weapon down," Lt. Onesimo Lopez said. "He refused to comply and then the officers discharged their weapons at him."
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen and another to his upper leg. He was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. His condition was not released.
Gasia Singleton was nearby and shocked by what she saw.
"Looked to my left and saw a large gun," she said. "Just screamed to all the staff to run to the back. My heart's still racing."
