Oct. 21: Breast cancer vaccine? Super Bowl bid
A vaccine that can reduce breast cancer recurrence by 50%? It is a reality at MD Anderson Cancer Center where several clinical trials are under way with results that approach the 50 percent mark.
Dr. Elizabeth Mittendorf is the lead physician on a trial that is showing great promise for women who have gone through breast cancer and are fighting to stay cancer free. Dr. Mittendorf joins Khambrel Marshall on this week's Houston Newsmakers to share details of how this vaccine works and the expected impact it can have on cutting the number of women dying from breast cancer.
Teresa Dornak is participating in one of the trials after Stage 1 cancer and a double mastectomy left her wondering what she could do to fight to make sure her cancer didn't return. Dr. Mittendorf and Ms. Dornak make for an informative and uplifting discussion about a key weapon in the battle against cancer.
Will the final Presidential debate determine the next President of the United States?
In advance of the final Presidential debate, our political science expert, Rice University Political Science Chairman Dr. Mark Jones joins Khambrel to handicap what's happened so far and looks ahead to what needs to happen for both candidates in the final debate.
Could Super Bowl 51 be heading to Houston?
The bid is under way with Houston already notified that it has a 50 percent chance of landing the big game when the announcement is made next Spring.
Janis Schmees, Executive Director of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and Greg Ortale, the Executive Director of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau join Khambrel to talk about what has been done already by the many groups collaborating to land the big game here in 2017. Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes comments on the Texans role in helping to win what he called the most competitive beauty pageant you can imagine.
