A special election has been scheduled Nov. 6 to replace a Houston-area legislator who died this month.
Gov. Rick Perry says voters in District 144 will pick a replacement for Rep. Ken Legler on the same day of the general election.
Legler had served in the Texas House since 2008. The Republican from Pasadena died June 1 of an apparent heart attack. Legler was 54.
Candidates face an Aug. 23 deadline to file applications to run for the seat.
