A new cruise line will soon start sailing from the Houston area.

Norwegian Cruise Line'sNorwegian Jewel will begin sailing from a state-of-the-art facility in Pasadena to the Western Caribbean in the fall of 2014.

The Norwegian Jewel can carry up to 2,374 passengers and will go on seven-day voyages.

The cruise line and Houston Port Authority have a three-year, seasonal agreement with a total of 75 calls.

There is an option to extend the agreement for up to two years.

Port Authority officials said about 100 new jobs will be created and the cruises are expected to generate $50 million revenue, including local purchases of $3.6 million, each year. Officials said $941,000 in state and local taxes is anticipated annually.
