Neighbor films burglary on cell phone

CONROE, Texas -

When someone broke into a nearby house, a Conroe man took out his cell phone and got the whole thing on video.

Conroe police said the thief targeted a home in the 300 block of Humble Tank Road that had a window air conditioning unit. They said he shoved the unit out of the way and climbed inside.

Investigators said a neighbor saw this, took out his cell phone and starting recording.

In the video, the neighbor waits outside the home as the thief sifts through the family's valuables inside. After pacing for several minutes, hoping to catch the suspect on camera leaving the home, the neighbor boldly walks up to the open window and sticks his camera inside. That is when he catches images of the young thief squatting in front of the television, picking through drawers, and stealing jewelry and caps from the family.

Detectives think the suspect may know the neighborhood well. It may be hard to make out his face, but police said the burglar appears to be in a blue or black hooded sweatshirt, and is likely less than 17 years old.

The victims, a mother and her son, watched the video. Investigators said that was enough to get a good lead on who may be responsible.

"The son believes it may actually be a child that lives in the area," says Sgt. James Graham with the Conroe police department.
