Time is running out for dozens of cats that were rescued from an animal sanctuary in Texas City.

The Galveston County Health District said if the animals are not adopted, it will be forced to euthanize them on Aug.22.

Animal control officers raided the Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary in January. They found nearly 200 neglected cats and dozens of others dead.

The surviving cats were taken to the Galveston County Animal Resources Center and the Galveston County Humane Society.

Both shelters are offering adoption specials.  A promotional event will be held Thursday at PetSmart in the 6100 block of Broadway from 4 to 8 p.m.
