Tornados hit Snook, Texas

SNOOK, Texas -

The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes hit the Snook area on Friday.

Meteorologists said an EF1 tornado struck one neighborhood, crushing buildings, uprooting trees and twisting metal around trees. They said the tornado packed 80 to 90 mph. Trees and debris were tossed and thrown in every direction.

"It's a good indication of a tornado to see debris blown one direction and then in another direction," said Gene Hafele, NWS meteorologist in charge. "It indicates low level circulation."

The second tornado hit the FedEx and Ceres buildings, damaging both roofs. FedEx trailers were picked up and tossed 50 to 100 yards. The National Weather Service said this twister tore through the area with peak winds at more than 100 mph. The FedEx building handles large, freight shipments and is now back up and running.
