HOUSTON -

A 36-year-old mother was shot to death early Tuesday in what police are calling a possible carjacking in southwest Houston.

Investigators said it happened at the Ashwood Condominiums in the 10200 block of Forum Park shortly after 3 a.m. as Tarvette Devon Baugh returned home alone in a rented Toyota Rav4.

Police said there was a struggle.

"The car that's next to hers, looks like there may have been a struggle between the two cars. We're optimistic we might be able to get some prints off of that," said HPD Sgt. Thomas Biggs.

Police said at least six shots were fired. It's not clear how many struck Baugh or how many suspects are involved.

Conrad Taylor is the father of Baugh's 3-year-old boy. He was called after the shooting.

"They (HPD) just was telling me how the mother of my child got shot and killed. I'm just trying to let it all register," said Taylor.

Family members describe Baugh as a fun-loving person who didn't deserve to die like this.

"She was a good person, loveable. She had a 3-year-old son who is crazy about his mother. I just can't believe this," said Catina Petitt, a cousin.

Police said they are following up on leads from witnesses who did come forward after the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600.
