HOUSTON -

A woman home with her 2-year-old son fought with a man who tried to break into her northwest Harris County home on Thursday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the attack happened at the Vineyard Trace Apartments on Kuykendahl near F.M. 1960 about 12:20 p.m.

Investigators said a man knocked on the mother's door and she answered it. The man, who spoke Spanish, then forced his way inside, detectives said.

Deputies said the man hit the woman 's head with a pistol as she tried to close the door.

The pistol went off and a bullet was fired into the woman's kitchen, officials said.

No one was wounded.

"I was coming home from break," neighbor Tracie Glover said. "I heard a shot. Then I heard a noise like someone was fighting."

Glover said someone came out of the home a short time later.

"I didn't see anybody come out the house but the guy," Glover said. "He looked at me, but it wasn't like he was doing nothing."

Investigators said the man did not take anything from the home.

Paramedics examined the mother and son and they did not need to go to a hospital.

The attacker was described as black, 19 to 22 years old and 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and long, dark-colored shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
