Home near president's house targeted by robbers
A group of bold robbers targeted a home four houses down from a president.
Houston police said men wearing masks forced their way into a home in a gated community near the Galleria on Tuesday.
The men held a gun to a 23-year-old woman while they waited for her mother to get home, investigators said.
Detectives said that when the mother got home, the men threatened to shoot her if she did not open the family's safe.
The men got away with about $400,000 worth of jewelry and cash, police said.
The men locked the women in a closet and got away in one of the family's cars -- a dark blue 2011 Jaguar with Texas license plate No. DG2W614. Police said they have not found the car.
The robbery happened a few doors down from what may be the most secure home in Houston. President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, are protected by a secret service detail around the clock.
The president's staff said the Bushes were at home the night of the robbery. A secret service spokeswoman said the agency is "comfortable with the president's security."
Detectives said the men involved may be responsible for two similar robberies in recent weeks. Descriptions of the men have not been released.
