Two men have been accused of stealing a safe that contained a toddler's cremated ashes.
Michael Coslett, 33, and Michael Lee Shelnutt, 18, have been charged with burglary.
Galveston County sheriff's deputies said the men broke into a home in the 900 block of Baker Drive in Bacliff about 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
Detectives said a witness recognized one of the men, who were seen leaving the home with something wrapped up in a T-shirt.
The witness followed the men to Coslett's home in the 400 block of Rosedale, deputies said. The men were arrested there a short time later, but the safe was not found, detectives said.
The safe, which was small enough to hold in a hand, was the only thing that was stolen, investigators said. The safe was black with "Brinks" in gold lettering with "Alex" written in permanent marker.
Deputies said the safe was found at a home in the 3900 block of Pickfair on Monday. The ashes remained inside, officials said.
Both men were booked into the Galveston County Jail. Coslett's bond was set at $30,000 and Shelnutt's bond was set at $10,000.
