Man who adopted girlfriend sued by biological children
John Goodman charged in fatal wreck
The biological children of a man who adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend are suing their father.
Multimillionaire John Goodman, 48, faces criminal charges in Florida for a drunk driving crash in 2010. Detectives said Goodman's Bentley T-boned Patrick Wilson's Hyundai at an intersection. Wilson, 23, was killed in the crash.
In traffic reports, police said Goodman walked away from the scene and did not call 911 for 54 minutes.
Prosecutors said Goodman's blood-alcohol level was .17, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
Wilson's parents filed a $100 million civil lawsuit against Goodman for damages.
In October, Goodman adopted his girlfriend, 42-year-old Heather Hutchins. The adoption entitled her to a portion of his children's $300 million trust fund. Since she is over the age of 35, she was able to immediately access the funds.
Wilson's family has argued that the adoption makes one-third of the trust fund fair game for a jury to consider as Goodman's real assets.
Goodman has two biological children, who are teenagers. Their guardian, Jeffrey Goddess, said Goodman defrauded the court and kept the adoption secret until after Christmas.
The biological children want the adoption thrown out.
