Man surrenders after letting hostage go
Police: Man held girlfriend hostage after argument
A man was taken into custody Friday after he held his girlfriend hostage and a SWAT team at bay for hours.
Houston police were called to the Pineforest Place apartments on Deep Forest Drive and Pinemont Drive around midnight to investigate a domestic disturbance.
Detectives said they discovered that a man had a machete and was holding his girlfriend hostage.
The couple had argued during a party at the apartment late Thursday, officials said. After the man left with friends, the girlfriend decided she wanted to move out. She started moving her belongings out when the boyfriend returned to the apartment. As she tried to walk out of the door, friends said the man grabbed her and used a machete to hold her hostage.
About 7:30 a.m., the man let his girlfriend go, police said. A short time later, he surrendered to officers.
Police have not released the man's name or said what charges he will face.
