HOUSTON -

A man was shot six times outside his southeast Houston apartment.

Houston police said the shooting happened at the Lakeshire apartments, at 503 El Dorado Blvd., shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said Napoleon Washington, 28, was shot in front of his first-floor apartment.

"They found a black man who had been shot several times. An ambulance was called. He was loaded and taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died of his wounds," said Richard Martinez with the Houston Police Department.

Washington was shot twice in the chest, twice in the head and once in each arm, officials said.

Police are questioning neighbors to see if they saw something that could help with the investigation.

"Once we walked over here, we saw that he was shot several times," said a witness who did not want to be identified. "He wanted help. He wanted help. He was shot between the eyes."

"I didn't think it was that bad around here. I mean things go down but nothing like that. (It's) pretty concerning, really," neighbor Sarah Holguin said. "Makes me worried to go to my car."
