HOUSTON -

A man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot during an attempted carjacking, investigators said.

Houston police said Jesus Neito, 43, parked his pickup truck, a Harley Davidson edition pickup with special rims and tires, outside his home on Fieldworth near Brea Crest just after 2 a.m. Friday.

Police said a man approached Neito and tried to steal his pickup.

Neito fought back and refused to handover the keys, investigators said.

The robber pulled out a gun and shot Neito in the abdomen, but he did not manage to steal the truck before he fled, detectives said.

Neito was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Relatives said this wasn't the first time that someone tried to steal the pickup truck. They said they plan to increase security at the home.
