HOUSTON -

A man hit by a vehicle in southwest Houston went home before heading to a hospital Thursday.

Investigators said emergency crews picked up the man at an apartment complex on Skyline Drive and Unity Drive around 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, the man was hit somewhere in Bellaire and the vehicle that struck him took off.

The victim called a friend and authorities said the friend picked up the man, took him to his apartment on Skyline Drive and then called 911.

Police were trying to piece together why the man was in Bellaire, how he was hit and why he first went home before calling for help.

The man was taken to Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.
