MISSOURI CITY, Texas -

A man received a prison sentence for setting a home he was leasing on fire.

Fort Bend County prosecutors said Keith Schupp started a fire inside a rental home in the Sienna Plantations subdivision in October 2009.

Schupp was trying to kill himself and destroy his ex-girlfriend's belongings, investigators said.

Prosecutors said Schupp poured gasoline on his ex-girlfriend's property, set them on fire and then stayed inside the home. He later jumped out a second-floor window and suffered burns and a broken arm.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but other homes in the area were placed in danger, officials said.

Schupp pleaded guilty first-degree arson and asked for probation. A judge sentenced him to eight years in prison.
