A man was found beaten to death on his 38th birthday, investigators said.
Houston police said a 38-year-old man had a small party at a home in the 3700 block of Sparks near the Eastex Freeway in northeast Houston on Sunday. Both he and his mother were celebrating their birthdays, which were just a day apart, officials said.
Neighbors became worried about the man, because he suffered from a medical condition, so they went to check on him on Monday morning. They ended up finding him dead, police said.
"I heard that they hit him in the back of the head with a baseball bat," friend Janet Hernandez said. "When they came banging on my door to get a phone number for his mom, I went into shock."
The man was last seen around 2:30 p.m. Sunday with two men believed to be friends, officials said. They are considered to be persons of interest, but police have not released their names.
The victim's name has not been released.
"This boy would take his shirt off for you if you needed a shirt," Hernandez said. "I don't know who would do this to him."
