Man escapes from police custody

FREEPORT, Texas -

Police are searching for a man who escaped from their custody Sunday.

Freeport police said Gabriel Salazar, 31, was arrested Sunday during an argument in the 400 block of West Broad Street. He was charged with retaliation and making terroristic threats.

Salazar complained that his was hurt, so paramedics went to the Freeport jail to assess his injuries. He was later taken to Angleton/Danbury hospital for treatment.

Detectives said Salazar's hand restraints were removed while doctors did X-rays on his wrist. Once the handcuffs were removed, Salazar bolted out of the X-ray room, police said.

Police searched the area, but have not found him. He was last seen wearing a black and white jail uniform.
