A Katy man died in a car crash he caused by texting and driving, officers said.
Police said the driver slammed into an 18-wheeler in Navasota on Thursday morning in Grimes County.
Investigators said Scott Randell Sarver, 56, never hit the brakes or steered out of the way. He died instantly.
"He was on the computer and texting and doing stuff on the Palm Pilot at the time of the crash," DPS Trooper Kenneth Balzekas told KBTX. "It was smashed between him and the steering wheel and was still on with partial messaging. He was looking down. That would explain why he never hit the brakes and never steered."
The big rig driver was taken to a hospital with neck pain.
"Texting while driving, doing stuff like that is almost the same if not worse as an intoxicated motorist," Balzekas said.
