A Galveston man was charged Wednesday with killing a 15-year-old girl and her father.

Dominique Alonzo Stokes has been charged with two counts of capital murder.

Stokes, 31, was arrested in Austin, Texas, on Dec. 9 after he was stopped while driving a stolen car. Police said Stokes had a handgun at the time of his arrest.

The Texas Department of Public Safety crime lab compared evidence collected from the scene of a Texas City double murder with the handgun in Stokes' possession. The lab matched evidence from the scene with the handgun, said police.

Police believe other men were involved in the shooting deaths of Miranda Vargas, 15, and her father Jorge, 33, during a home invasion in the 700 block of Amburn Road. An 11-year-old boy at the home at the time of the attack was not physically hurt.
