Deandre Marquis Gray charged with murder
One man was arrested and charged with murder after a beach party in Surfside, Brazoria County turned deadly.
Deandre Marquis Gray, 19, was charged with murder.
Brazoria County deputies said Derrick DeWayne Milam, 25, was among 15,000 people who crowded onto the beach on April 7.
Officials said Gray fired into the crowd, killing Milam.
Houston police arrested Gray after a chase along the Eastex Freeway Thursday night. Police said Gray had a 3-year-old relative in the back seat during the pursuit. The child was not injured.
Gray was found hiding in a Luby's walk-in refrigerator, police said.
Deputies said Gray was free on bond for another murder in Houston in 2009 when the shooting occurred.
"Our evidence shows he murdered somebody else. That makes him very dangerous. When he was arrested last night, when he jumped out of the car, he had a purse with him, which he threw out -- disposed of. The purse contained narcotics and a weapon -- a pistol. This man's a dangerous person," said Sheriff Charles Wagner with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.
Gray is being held on $1 million bond. Officials said he belongs to a gang.
